Front Of Motor City in the 1960's

....Competition & Regular Skaters of the 1960's....
{Including Rare photos of Swinging Sweeney-WKNR D-J 60's}
As well as the Battle of the Bands Host

What memories I have of the sixties: Monday Night the "Battle of the Bands" , these were the bands that practiced in their garages, and had their family as their "roadies", set them up and took them down on stage. Their could be 4 or 5 bands that would compete on a Monday night. They would be set up, North, South, East & West corner of the rink floor. I would work as a Door Guard, all night long, it was so much fun.

Tuesday Night was "Teen Hop" night, live bands, setting up the big stage in front of the sound booth. DJ's like Swinging Sweeny, Robin Semour and a variety of others. You could see live bands and groups. I worked as a door guard again, and yes it was fun. In one of the pictures that I mailed you , you see Chuck and Bill, and in the background the stage, and the sign with Swinging Sweeney. This would be updated weekly to let people know which groups and bands were coming. I either worked door guard or coat check counter on Monday and Tuesday nights.

The Motor City Competition Skaters, as I said before they skated competition, skated a couple of the sessions during the week and of course Sunday Night. They did not usually skate Friday and Saturday Nights, that was left for the "Regulars" / "Rink Rats" as they were called. I was accepted by the group because I worked there and worked/skated 7 days a week.
