How the Motor City & Friends Canoe Trips Started

This year was the 23nd year of the Motor City & Friends Camping/Canoe Trip. 
It began 23 years ago by Gary Thomason; it started out with 14 people who
just wanted to go canoeing over the weekend.  We all had so much fun that we
decided to invite more people the following year, it grew and grew.  I took
over the responsibility of “Camp Counselor”, putting the Camping/Canoe Trip
together. We have had as much as a 100 people going camping /canoeing, and
we started staying Monday through Sunday instead of just the weekend. The
group was Adults only, no children under the age of 18 yrs old. We go to
White’s Canoe Livery in Standish, Michigan (about 2 ½ hr drive); it is owned
by Ladd & Pam White.
A group of us still go each year, and now it has become a family event, with
children & animals welcomed.  It is a week of stress release, relaxation,
fun, story telling and having a chance to see old friends.
