Hello, Steve, Eddie Jr., and everyone who was involved in the Motor City Project.
I want to personally, “Thank You”, for this past weekend. I looked back at February 2000, when I first asked the Warren Historical Society for photos/information on Motor City. When they said they had nothing on file, (having been a member for several years) I was shocked. I felt a sinking empty feeling in my heart. Here was the place where not only did I spend about 10 years of my life skating there (1976-1986), and I had met my wife Janice there. I was thinking of everything, what my life would have been like without Motor City. The memories, the friends we made, the things we learned about life and growing up, and all the fun we had skating at Motor City. To think the city I have lived all my life had no photos/information on Motor City floored me. This sent me on a mission!! I started at the city and county looking for all the records/photos and information they had about Motor City. Sure I obtained aero photos, and tax records etc…, “but still did not find what I was looking for”. I still remember when I talked to Eddie Hakim Sr. and he said, “I have the right man for you with information on Motor City”(Steve Schang). I have to also give credit to Gary Thomason who one night recognized me as a former Motor City skater at the Great Skate & told me that Eddie Hakim Sr. (owner of Motor City), now owned the Bubbly n Tub, which led me to contacting him. In the beginning of getting this project together, I had no idea of what this would turn into (I do not think anyone did). I have never seen so many people as myself, who felt the same way about a place that has affected so many peoples’ lives. As anyone from Motor City would say, it’s the “People” that make “Motor City”.

Thank you, Steve Schang for the photos/information and countless hours of dedication scanning photos, e-mailing, snail mails, research, and most of all your continued support and advice. & because of you so many people from Motor City have kept in touch with each other.

Thank you, Eddie Hakim Jr., for your web page authoring advice/suggestions, and your late night hours working on the Motor City DVD. I never realized what could be done on a multi-media level with all the photos/information, we gathered about Motor City. The Motor City DVD, when people see it just grabs their attention, brings back memories & emotionally blows them away. As I mentioned before, anyone who does not get emotionally blown away watching the DVD, is not on the same planet as the people who make up Motor City!!!

Thank you Chris Smith/Punker, your suggestions for the web pages, concert photos, photos from Motor City events such as the canoe trip, cedar point, whirly ball, etc…

Thanks to everyone who helped out by sending in your personal photos/info from Motor City. To name a few >>>Korene (Anderson) Naert aka Corky, Rick Vineyard, Elaine/Cindy Velardo, Nancy Wingerter, Chuck Gazarian, Nancy (Arvo/Mcleod) Rudnik, David Meade, Earl Brady, Tracy Velandra, Lisa Forbes, Del Woods, Mike (CarWax), Deborah (Hakim) Zolno, Mike Chynoweth.

Thanks also to Sue Keffer & Laurie Schwarz, and the rest of the Warren Historical Society, for allowing us the showcase for our Motor City display. (And to have it on their Grand Opening Day was Awesome!)

Thank you, Pam Coletta & Patricia Spezia of The Great Skate, for helping us get the Sunday Night Skating event together with there support and Free Passes.

Thanks Edward A. Hakim & Linda Hakim for your support right from the beginning!!!

“All in All I found what I was looking for..!!!!!!” (And much, much, more)

Thank you all,,,,
I will, as many others remember this past weekend for the rest of my life.

p.s. I wanted everyone to know that I really enjoyed the Motor City Weekend. There really was an excellent turnout for the Motor City Events. It was a very memorable event. I believe there should be a Motor City Event once a year if possible. This will help keep all the familiar faces together!!!!!

Thanks again,

Janice Guarnieri
