Found this great site searching for Piepoli history. I was blown away when I saw all the common history, old and new. Great site. Many names are weaved in and out and then back into the family over the years. Buono Natale

Since I rarely see my surname, I'm always a bit curious when I do. I'm sure there's no relation, but at least our names are similar. My grandparents came from Foggia. Nobody in my family knows anything about our family, but there were some rumors that my grandfather and his two brothers came to America, himself settling in the upstate, (Utica) New York area while the other two ended up in Chicago. It would be nice to solve this mystery. Mike Guarniero

Yeh,I know...but, I still feel compelled to convey this recent experience. It`s like due to this short yet exhilerating path or detor, however some may look at it ,and this conveyance grants me an eternal membership in the exclusive and highly regarded unitiy perhaps known as...aww you fill in,you know? After a very nice visit with my Mom and Dad I picked up a recent copy of the "Smithsonian" in the hall-way to the lobby and started thumbing through it. On the ride home we stopped at B&N. Rebecca said she would meet me inside. She knows that look of total immersement I get sometimes. Especially if it has something to do with music.I said "thank you" then resummed reading a discussion on the mysteries and magnificences created by the masters "Josef Guarneri" and "Antonio Strataveri".Indeed, very captivating.I was extited to get home and re-read the inside label of my violin to see if it was a Guarnerius. I already knew it was`nt a Strataverius `cause the label inside stated "copy of a Strataverius" but I could`nt recall the name and that`s right folks I`d never even heard of a "Guarnerius".Now, I was`nt jumping around hysterically or anything y`all...physically,that is. I`ve experienced that thing, as we all do, known as irony most of my life and learned how to work with, even enjoy one of it`s sidekicks, expectation. We`re at B&N. What kind of info might one discover in this wealth of documentation.Well,I don`t know how to say it. But, not a`! After a brief attempt to locate it on my own I felt first a drop in my level of self esteam by asking for help being in the company of what I`m sure all B&N peaple must be, 200 I.Q.`ers,yeh, followed by a dramatically sharp increase accompanied by one of those "when E.F. Hutton speaks"moments when I replied "Violins." to her question 'What subject.'"Guarnius and Strataverius, that is." I said. After all, why, I`ve recently become quite an authority on the subject. "How is it spelled?"She asks. Ah, eye, eye, eye. Well, we found it finally. By order only, though. Hey,listen, my ass is tired. I type real slow,OK.So, later in the day I found one.Not mine, however. But,you see, we clean houses and it was one of those What?`That? Why, that ole` thing`s been up there for ever" things. Anyhow, I`m a musician. Violin was my first. Hated it.Hey, at four I had a hard time with arm and chin pain. It has in bold print Josef Guarneri Fecit (1st line) Cremonae Anno 17 39 IHS (2nd line) on the inside label. And, I played it.And, had a moment.Did I say I played it? It was like it played it.I was in the club from that point on. Athentic or not I was permitted to do that musicians music thing that keeps us comming back, but in an inexplicablly large way simply by touching bow to string for one long, no, short ,no, one eternally long draw on an open note. It`s secret. It`s for us. Thanks! Oh, and also it`s got two rattlesnake rattles inside it, too!

Ermanno Guarnieri

Oh my! This is wonderful! I'm not related but stumbled onto your page while trying to find a map of, or figure out where Genova is. I've learned that my grandparents (BALZARINI & GRAVANO)were born in "Genoa" in the 1870's,but now that I've seen your page I realize there's both a city and a province of Genova and I don't even know exactly where they were from (and no family to ask). But I feel a little bit closer to them just by having seen your beautiful photographs of the area, and by thinking "What if Gramp lived HERE, and actually went to this church", etc. Anyway, Guarnieris, your website is stunning!!

I see you have an Angela Martinazzi in your data base from Northern Italy. Well, fancy that! I happen to have a couple of Angela Martinazzi's in My data from Pavia (Lombardia) Italy. My records go to the 1700's mostly from the town of Pavia but some Martinazzi men did move away. My family was from Bacilica San Teadoro in Pavia. I have been there twice and it is a wonderful place! By the way, Nice web site. I found it by doing a search of Altavista for "Martinazzi" Ciao Toni

This is a great site! I found it while tracking down info on my family name - Schiappacasse. I am looking for any information on the Schiappacasse's that settled in Flint and other SE Michigan areas. My Great grandmother's name was Mary Schiappacasse (possibly Pastorino was her maiden name), she moved to Michigan from Neirone in the 1890's, and died in the 1950's, in Flint. My grandfather was Albert, his sisters Rose and Addie. They had a candy business called Schiappacasse's Candy Kitchen for 80+ years in Flint. There was also a Charlie Pastorino attached to the family somehow. If anybody knows anything about this part of the family I would love to hear from you!

My father's mother was Schiappacasse and most of her family went to Usa at the beginning of 1900. We are in touch with several relatives in Usa from Boston to San Francisco, just yesterday Urbana (more then 80 years old) called me from San Mateo by phone for telling me about the party organized by her with her boys for the 4th July. My father will be very happy when I show him your web site. I would be very glad to receive a message from Usa. Regards. Viva Zena. I am not able to write in Genoa slang but I speak it , even if it is just a little different from the language used in Neirone. I am born in 1950 and I spent my summer holidays in Neirone up 1963. I particularly enjoyed the history of Neirone. I stumbled on this site when rummaging around for items related to my Gardella and Corsiglia ancestors who were probably from Neirone and Cavagnaros who were from a tiny place near Bargagelata. Haven't yet been able to confirm the Gardella/Corsiglia origins but all indications point to Roccatagliata in the comune of Neirone. I too have visited there and was intrigued at the rugged beauty of those mountains. Thanks for the photos -- they took me back vicariously!.

Hello to All, Was advised by my sister ("Schiappacasse/Marchionni" a few pages down) to review the names of the people who have signed in. The world just got a lot smaller. I have never had a chance to visit Neirone but your pictures have given me a good idea of the Gardella and Schiappacasse home turf, thank you for that. Pen Pals?? John

This site is very interesting. My Great-Grandmother was Angela Guarnieri Pastorino. She was from Neirone Italy. My mother, Angela's Granddaughter, remembers the Guarnieri's, especially Victor who she says was a great dancer. Mom and her family lived in Detroit. Her mother was Amelia Pastorino Tisdale. Her Grandparents were Anthony and Angela Pastorio. Other relations were the Corsiglias. Anyone who remembers these names or has more information please contact me.

I was very excited to see your web site. I am trying to trace my roots and would love any advice or help I could get. My last name is Guarnery. I have been told that the original spelling was Guarnieri. My father was born in Illinois - Springfield. His name was Alex Neil Guarnery. He would be 93 if he were still alive. He had several brothers and sisters: Josephine Guarnery, Joseph Guarnery, Arlene Guarnery, Elmer Guarnery, Joline Guarnery from what I can remember. If any of this sounds familiar to anyone, please email me. My father had me very late in age and all my uncles and aunts have passed away are no longer able to remember anything. All the best to all of and always. DJ

Congratulation a wonderful site..lots of hard work went into this site. Found you whilst looking for members of our family. Family came from Sicily and settled in New York and Chicago...I love tracing them as we are the first (and only)members to settle here in England (via Chicago). Your site has given me further links to investigate...many thanks....I shall be returning for more inspiration.

I was very surprised and happy to find out our web site and to have so many cousins all over the world. My parents come from Sicily, town of Villarosa, near Enna, but my grandpa said that our forbears are from Madonie mountains. Now we live in Ivrea, a town in province of Turin, Piemonte region, very famous for its carnival, the most original (people taking part in carnival hurl oranges) and ancient in Italy. If anyone wishes to see our carnival (this year on March, 4-8) we'll happy to guide you. Many greeting to all Guarneri! angelo and luisa guarneri

Congratulations on a terrific web site! My fathers parents, Angelo Pastorini and Theresa Gardella, are from Neirone de Genova. Relatives still living in Neirone are Amelia Di Benedetti, Ada Gardella, Ida Rassetto. Am looking for any info on these names and on Neirone, which I plan to visit within the coming year. Thank you.

Delighted to find your link to Neirone, with photos, yet! I am a Schiappacasse from Detroit, MI, with grandparents (Schiappacasse and Gardella) from Neirone. Do any of you who share that heritage? When my great-grandfather, Louis Gardella, moved to the US from Neirone, his brother went to Argentina (probably during the 1880s). Does anyone have information about Gardellas in Argentina with ties to Detroit and Gross Pointe, Michigan?

Greetings to all my "cousins" out there. My son found this page the other day.He spoke to my wife the other night and filled her in on this web site. His message is entered below. He now lives in California. He wants to be the next famous Guarnieri in the movies. So far he has only gotten some extra work in a few big movie but I know he can do it because he is a GUARNIERI. Check him out in "Man on the Moon" with Jim Carey. He's the one sitting next to Danny Devito in the night club. My son is going to go nuts when he sees this but he is a ham so I know he really won't mind. I don't want to make this too long so I'll be going. The next time I visit I'll try to give you a short history of my branch of the family as I know it. Thanks Tony, this is great. God Bless All. Couzin Bert.

Ciao, mi famiglia! My name is Joe Guarnieri. I'm originally from Providence, Rhode Island. (RI) In RI there are only about five Guarnieri's in the phone book. Fortunately they're all my immediate family. Aside from the Bible, the phone book is the first thing I check in the hotel in a new area. Why? For the name Guarnieri of course!! Like you never do it!! Anyway ironically I was thinking of starting my own Guarnieri web page, when I curiously typed it up on the net...Wham! here it is. God bless you Anthony Joseph Guarnieri for another Guarnieri accomplishment!!! I'd like to say Hello to my mother (MARIANNE),father (ALBERT), and brother (BERT)....and to all the rest of the Guarnieri's in the world! I'll be back! *GUARNIERI* That's AMORE`!!!
