A 7/8 size violin has come to us from an uncle. The label inside reads Jofeph Kloz in Mittenwald an der Ifer.Anno 1794. Any information on this violin would be appreciated.
The actual size and description is also listed on a certificate that was in the case written by a Ernest A. Doring, May 16, 1941. It states, to the best of his knowledge the violin is the work of a Bavarian Master of the Kloz school as indicated by a label of Joseph Kloz dated 1794 which the violin bears. Characteristic pattern, medium arched model, in excellent state of preservaion. Original chestnut brown varnish. Top of pine, fine in grain. Two piece back, nutmeg figure. The sides are plain, the upper right rib excepted which shows faint veritcal figure. The scroll is original and a fine example of the school. Proportions under full size. Measurements/length 13 13/16", across U.B. 6 1/4", across M.B. 4 1/8", across L.B. 7 7/8".
Thank you for your time.
